We have partnered with CleanAire NC Environment Justice who have graciously sponsored a number of PurpleAir pollution monitors that have been installed in the Lillington, NC area close the Highland Paving Asphalt Plant. We will be purchasing additional monitors and installing them in the area. We have already noted high readings at night when the plant has been operating. We are reporting these findings to NC Department of Air Quality.
This image below illustrates the proximity of the Highland Paving Asphalt Plant and Crete Solutions Concrete Plant to Johnson Brothers Asphalt Plant. You will also notice how close the Highland Paving Asphalt plant is to the historical flooding zone and Neill’s Creek which discharges into the Cape Fear River. Within the 1.2 miles illustrated on the map, you have residences, a nursing home, hospital, medical offices, and County Courthouse and departments.
These monitors will help us document potential air pollution coming from the plant.
